I think the body style was called a Starlight coupe, and could be had in either humdrum Champion or boss Commander trim.

Supposedly, Studebaker had wavered between front engine and rear engine for a while (this car was designed when the Tucker was still being hyped in the press), and the giant trunk was supposed to have been able to accommodate either configuration without having to clean sheet the whole body. Might be urban legend though.

Not exactly for this model, they were outsourcing a smaller rear engined model to Porsche. Try googling Studebaker Porsche or Porsche project 542.
